When I create cups, I return to the basics. I love the quality of this classic form; it offers a drinking experience that is familiar, comfortable, and effortless. Beyond its feel, the shape is remarkably stable and forgiving of any surface; finding its rest just as easily on a soft sofa as it does outdoors.

I am especially drawn to the pit-fired surface, which reimagines what a cup can be. Moving away from traditional glazes, the shadows and colours are dictated by the organic materials used in the firing process, making every piece entirely unique
